Manchester-based marketing agency Pixel8 won the Best Low Budget Campaign category, sponsored by The Educational Trust, at the 2016 CIM Northern Awards in Newcastle on 3 November.

The awards, which celebrate the creativity and success of the northern marketing industry, was hosted by TV’s Andy Crane.

The winning campaign was #MCR2Rio on behalf of Eastlands Trust, which celebrated this year’s Olympic Games and encouraged people to be more active.

“The campaign got amazing results on a budget of under £5,000 and a two-week delivery schedule,” said Graham Webb, managing director of Yorkshire Sales and Marketing Developments and Educational Trust trustee, who judged the category.

Shaun Brennan, marketing and communications manager at the Eastlands Trust, added, "The digital marketing campaign Pixel8 delivered can only be described as a gold-medal performance.

“The team bought into the Olympic spirit as a business, as did their staff as individuals. As well as managing and planning a detailed campaign across the many sports and facilities we operate, the team was reacted daily to the phenomenal achievements of Team GB, complementing national initiatives and engaging in conversation with governing bodies and the individual athletes.

“Given the time differences and the sheer number of successes to communicate, that was a Herculean effort."

Network manager for CIM, Diane Earles, said “Congratulations to Pixel8, who fought off strong competition in this category.”

Founder of Pixel8 Nigel Daws commented: “I am so proud of what my team delivered in such a short time.

“The #MCR2Rio campaign was superb, supported by a comprehensive digital marketing strategy. I was confident we would deliver something special for the trust and the people of Manchester. We certainly sprinkled a bit of Rio gold on each of the national venues - and we’ve hopefully inspired the next generation to visit and use the superb sporting facilities available across Manchester."
